The Client

National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales)

The Challenge

NDCWales wished to instill a giving culture amongst its members and supporters. As the sole full-time fundraiser for NDCWales, Rebecca Hobbs, Development Officer, wanted to develop her understanding of Individual Giving and unlock the potential of the organisation’s membership scheme “Lift” which had lost some momentum. She also wished to receive digital fundraising and social media training to take an active lead running campaigns in support of this work.

The Solution

Prosper funding gave Rebecca the opportunity to visit the company’s priority touring venues, attend two Institute of Fundraising conferences and to visit a dance company in Leeds. These visits gave fresh insight into current individual giving trends particularly relating to digital platforms. Rebecca was also able to attend the Tessitura European Conference, where she met with touring dance companies from across the UK, to share advice and best practice.

Through Prosper, A&B Cymru funded; a videographer to create support films, targeted digital screens for Priority Venues, the Social Media campaign and marketing materials to promote “Lift”.

A&B Cymru arranged for Emma Croke, a social media content specialist at Golley Slater, to mentor Rebecca to embed this new, digitally focussed approach.

Rebecca also received advice from the team at Tessitura to help unlock NDCWales’ existing audience data and was therefore able to pull a list of prospects to approach to engage with the membership scheme.

The Result

NDCWales noted a 122% increase in individual income compared to the previous year. In terms of instilling a giving culture, 60% of NDCWales’ Board became Lift members and membership figures showed a clear increase.

The Endorsement

“Having the A&B Prosper funding has helped me to refocus and develop my individual giving skills set. I am usually used to working to tight budgets, so it has been a luxury to be able to explore new and creative ways of promoting individual giving through digital platforms. It has injected some new life into our individual giving plan, and has helped establish a more cohesive fundraising and marketing approach.” Rebecca Hobbs, Development Officer, NDCWales
