The judges agreed that the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama stood out for its range of creative and effective partnerships with business. Investment Management company Brewin Dolphin sponsors the Richard Burton Company, which is the College’s repertory company made up of final year students. The partnership allows the business to align itself with a high quality brand while providing an appealing method of entertaining clients. Based at the College, Catering Academy sponsors the performance programme while Liberty Living, the student accommodation provider, supports a subsidised ticket scheme. Both businesses benefit from an enhanced reputation among the students they serve.

Energy company Valero has enabled an extension of the College’s work into West Wales through its sponsorship of the Young Actors Studio, which offers valuable opportunities to local teenagers. The partnership with Wales & West Utilities has harnessed the talents of the theatre design students to create a giant puppet for use as an important educational health & safety tool. The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama’s ability to tailor partnerships to perfectly match business objectives impressed the judges. They felt that the consistent quality of these memorable and inventive projects made it a clear winner of the Arts Award.
