Arts & Business Cymru Awards 2017 shortlist revealed

A west Wales based chocolate company, a prison in Bridgend and a boatyard on Anglesey are just some of the organisations shortlisted for the coveted Arts & Business (A&B) Cymru Awards 2017

The shortlist was announced today [7 April 2017], and saw 22 businesses and their arts partners named as finalists for this year’s awards. They are now set to fight it out to win one of the sought after trophies at the award ceremony in June.

As well as the winners of the eight award categories, recipients of the prestigious Robert Maskrey Award for Arts Philanthropy, the Admiral Business of the Year and the Hospital Innovations Arts Award, will also be announced on the night, for which there is no shortlist.

The 24th A&B Cymru Awards will take place at Wales Millennium Centre on Friday 23 June. The ceremony and dinner is sponsored for the seventh year by Global Energy Company Valero and the awards trophies will be presented by a range of Welsh celebrities.

The annual event celebrates companies and individuals who work with the arts to achieve core business objectives which, in turn, benefit people and communities across Wales.

The award winners have been chosen by an independent panel of judges who have expertise in practical art forms, sponsorship and business. They will each receive a specially commissioned trophy designed and made by Ingrid Walker, a stained glass artist living and working in the Vale of Glamorgan.

A&B Cymru’s chief executive, Rachel Jones, said: “The partnerships nominated this year show the strength and diversity of the artistic community throughout Wales, and the finalists have all worked hard to develop relationships that extend beyond their sector and enhance the work within private enterprise.

“These awards are a great opportunity to highlight the fantastic work that businesses and the arts do together, and I’d like to thank all of our sponsors for supporting us in hosting these awards yet again. All of the finalists shortlisted should be immensely proud of their achievements, and I hope that this recognition encourages them to continue with their inspiring work.”
